It wouldn’t feel right if one of us didn’t do a post noting that today is what many people (or at least me and JoAnne, I think) consider the unofficial start of summer - Opening Day of the 2006 Major League Baseball Season. Even better for me, the Cleveland Indians (my team, since I grew to love baseball while living in Cleveland) are playing in the opening game against last year’s World Series winners, the Chicago White Sox.
I’ve had the game on while exercising and doing a little work. I’ve groaned as I saw the Indians’ star starter C.C. Sabathia hurt himself within the first three innings and the White Sox take a 3-0 lead, and I’ve perked up as the Indians came right back and tied the game 3-3 in the top of the 4th inning.
But torrential rain came in just after that, and the game is still in rain delay, so I won’t have time to report on how it ends even if they do eventually resume play.
Nevertheless, as far as I’m concerned - summer is here
uhhh… dude… in Chicago it’s not even *spring* yet
I was there Friday and Saturday, and on Friday, at least, it was positively summery (without the 98% hunidity, or course).
yeah–don’t be fooled by the sizeable standard deviation ;p
Another year of gut-wrenching drama and leaving men on base for us Boston Red Sox fans!
and another year of Tony La Russa’s endless parade of relievers for us Cardinal Fans!
And the beginning of another 88 years without a World Series title for the White Sox. God damn it.
Mark, I most heartily agree - summer is here!
Another year where we (St. Louis) have the best record in baseball, winning > 100 games, only to choke in the Fall, giving it all away for some underdog team that hasn’t won in 500 years. Perhaps the new stadium will change this karma?!
This year is surely the year for the Phillies.
Or maybe next year.
Happy Opening Day to everyone. The happiest day of the year, I celebrated by taking the afternoon off to watch the Rangers lose to the Red Sox. Sadly, I didn’t get to watch quite as much baseball as I would have liked, but I got the Rangers game in, so I’m happy.
I love the indians, cleveland is a sweet city, even if we are the fatest dumbest pourest big city in america.
