Poor characterization can easily be thrust behind a wall of Technicolor buffoonery. This sort of machining of fiction from a world definitively affected by its scientific imagination falls under <a href="http://www.mundanesf.com/default.asp?id=11&mnu=11" rel="nofollow">mundane science fiction</a>.
